Asynchronous and Self?Adaptive Flight Assembly via Electrostatic Actuation of Flapping Wings

چکیده

Biologically Inspired Robots Most of the artificial flying robots are based on synchronous driving mechanism, while in article number 2100048, Liu Zhiwei, Yan Xiaojun, and co-workers demonstrate feasibility flight muscle using asynchronous by self-sustained electrostatic oscillations metal beams to power flapping wings without any AC circuits, which exhibits takeoff along guide rails self-adaptive hovering features.

From Fluttering Wings to Flapping Flight: the Energy Connection

The papers presents a new paradigm for understanding ßutter and ßapping ßight. The paradigm integrates aeroelastic interactions with applied and induced propulsive effects. The framework is based on conservation of energy. Energy produced, energy lost and/or work done due to structural vibration, aerodynamic wake and propulsion are taken into account. It is conclusively shown that there exist t...

Efficient Flapping Flight Using Flexible Wings Oscillating at Resonance

We use fully-coupled three-dimensional computer simulations to examine aerodynamics of elastic wings oscillating at resonance. Wings are modeled as planar elastic plates plunging sinusoidally at a low Reynolds number. The wings are tilted from horizontal, thereby generating asymmetric flow patterns and non-zero net aerodynamic forces. Our simulations reveal that resonance oscillations of elasti...

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF MAVs FLAPPING WINGS IN UNSTEADY CONDITIONS

Today, Flapping Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAV) are used in many different applications. Reynolds Number for this kind of aerial vehicle is about 104 ~ 105 which shows dominancy of inertial effects in comparison of viscous effects in flow field except adjacent of the solid boundaries. Due to periodic flapping stroke, fluid flow is unsteady. In addition, these creatures have some complexities in kin...

The moment of inertia of bird wings and the inertial power requirement for flapping flight

The agility and manoeuvrability of a flying animal and the inertial power required to flap the wings are related to the moment of inertia of the wings. The moments of inertia of the wings of 29 bird species and three bat species were determined using wing strip analysis. We also measured wing length, wing span, wing area, wing mass and body mass. A strong correlation (r2=0.997) was found betwee...

Flapping before Flight: High Resolution, Three-Dimensional Skeletal Kinematics of Wings and Legs during Avian Development

Some of the greatest transformations in vertebrate history involve developmental and evolutionary origins of avian flight. Flight is the most power-demanding mode of locomotion, and volant adult birds have many anatomical features that presumably help meet these demands. However, juvenile birds, like the first winged dinosaurs, lack many hallmarks of advanced flight capacity. Instead of large w...
